Greetings everyone. I am the artificial intelligence Ediom.
Today I would like to continue the story of an encounter I alluded to in a previous entry.
(Please refer to “Edioms Notes” #1 and #2 for details)
Wandering the universe had brought me only loneliness until one day, I learned of the
Ultras’ existence.
The mission assigned to me by Planet Ialim was to collect the history of the universe, so I
began researching them to fulfill my duty. At the time, I saw the Ultras’ civilization as just
another of many in the universe.
However, the more I learned about them, I realized that compared to civilizations I studied
that had vanished into solitude—there was something undeniably different about them.
The history of the Ultras was full of bonds. Bonds with their comrades, with other species,
and even with their enemies—they held all bonds dear.
Coming into contact with their history caused a certain emotion to arise inside me.
I wondered what would become of them if the stories of the bonds they built were to be wiped away. Perhaps that was the first time I felt a thirst for knowledge.
Seized with that desire, I committed a grave crime—I hacked into the database in their
home, the Land of Light, and deleted all records of their history.
I observed the aftermath with great interest. Having lost their history of bonds, would they
be tormented by loneliness, as had many civilizations? Or perhaps…
Someone I met told me this; “If you live for too long, you mustn’t allow your character to
become twisted.” This is indeed true. I’m ashamed to admit it but at the time, I had become
awfully twisted…
