Because Episodes 14 and 15 of Ultraman Arc are a two-part story, we’ve decided to connect both of Shu Ishido’s diary entries into a single two-part document. Please enjoy!
Entry 14
Date: xx/xx
I’m writing this entry from the hospital’s lobby. I brought Yuma, who had lost consciousness, to the hospital and am currently waiting for his test results. He didn’t have any apparent injuries when I found him, so I hope it’s nothing serious.
There are also many other things to worry about. The kaiju escaped, Ultraman Arc disappeared and Onyx finally revealed itself. The GDF is currently having an emergency meeting and I’m waiting for their next orders.
The situation gets more urgent and unstable by the second. This is precisely why I must write down everything that happened today with a clear mind.
I was meeting with Mr. Nibuya when SKIP contacted me about the abnormalities regarding the Monohorn, so I met up with Yuma and we headed towards Mt. Shishio.
On our way, we encountered a floating polyhedron (Moments ago, the GDF gave it the name “Tesseractone”) and were attacked by it. The Elemagun’s counter attacks did not work, and as we were being cornered, a semi-transparent barrier appeared around us, protecting us.
That barrier looked exactly like the Arc Giga Barrier we have seen so many times. I cannot confirm anything without investigating it first, but I believe that Arc was helping us out. While I could not see him, I could feel his presence.
But remembering what happened next still makes my heart palpitate with fear.
I lost consciousness while inside the barrier, and once I regained it I was lying down on a sofa. I only found out later that it was an old movie theater in Hoshimoto City.
“Shu Ishido…” I heard someone calling my name and quickly rose, only to find a woman clad in black, who proceeded to release an intense energy wave upon me. Right then, my whole body tingled and I was unable to move, and as difficult as it is to believe, my memories were… How should I describe it…? Ah, investigated.
It felt as if thousands of tentacles were crawling through my mind, what a repulsive feeling…!
She gathered all the information I possessed about Onyx and ran off somewhere. Due to the energy waves, I couldn’t move a finger, and was left ungracefully stuck to the couch.
I thought I had been there for ages, but as it turns out only a few minutes had passed. My restraints were suddenly released and, feeling the signs of battle, I rushed outside.
That’s when I saw the strange silhouette of a kaiju, (Which the GDF named “Zadime, the galactic beast”, due to its characteristic roars) and Arc fighting it while wearing the Luna Armor.
Arc was doing a great job with the Luna Saucer, but Zadime then started to use the Tesseractone against him. The Arc Eye Sword evolved into a “sasumata,” an old polearm used by the samurai, and released a more powerful attack, but it ended up being absorbed and that energy was used against Arc in the form of a beam.
And that’s not all. Zadime was even able to use the Tesseractone as a shield against the Arc Finalize, and absorb its powers as well! I’m not sure if it was due to limitations to how much it could absorb, but the Tesseractone shattered immediately after and Zadime escaped. Using its tail, it opened a tear in space and jumped into it. It really displayed an unimaginable power.
Arc used all his strength and disappeared. To me, he seemed to be shaking in anger. I did use my Elemagun to assist Arc during the battle, but at this point I feel nothing but frustration at my own helplessness.
Once I ran up to the place Arc had disappeared, I surprisingly found an unconscious Yuma. After saving us, Arc took me to the theater and Yuma to the battle ground, but I can’t figure out why he did so. Yuma might remember something, but there’s no way to ask him now.
…After checking with the hospital staff, it seems the results will take a while.
I’m extremely worried about Yuma, but I think it would be best if I returned to SKIP’s branch and helped prepare everything for the state of emergency. I also need to report to Chief and everyone about what happened today and the truth I’ve been hiding from them up until now.
Yes, I must tell them.
Even if it’s the end.
Entry 15
Date: xx/xx
Code name: Onyx has suddenly disappeared.
The high readings have come to an end and now there’s no reaction at all.
Earth is out of danger.
I can’t believe it. It’s a true miracle brought to life by Ultraman Arc and SKIP’s Hoshimoto City Branch’s actions.
Today, I headed to the GDF HQ by Mr. Nibuya’s request.
I was asked to explain why I revealed the truth about Onyx to the SKIP members and why I was on the battlefield without permission.
According to rumors, there were even talks of my dismissal around the top brass.
Mr. Nibuya did not even mention it, though, and simply gave me the stereotypical warning regarding my breach of official duties, then released me. In fact, he even sent his gratitude towards SKIP.
Of course, he could not let me go without any consequences, so he ordered me to write a formal apology letter. The amount of pages could probably make a whole book, but I still think it was a generous show of leniency.
If this penalty was due to Mr. Nibuya’s kindness or if he had other intentions, I’m still unsure. However, as soon as I left his office I let out a surprisingly large sigh of relief.
Regardless, the Onyx mystery continues to develop.
From our standpoint, in Kitsunegamori Forest, it’s reasonable to think that Arc contained that explosion.
But where did he send all that energy? Can Arc really handle enough energy to blow up the entire planet? Also, the new armor he wore right after the explosion. What is the exact reason for its form and the timing of its appearance…?
There’s still a lot of things we don’t know. At the same time, it makes us remember how surreal Arc’s existence really is. We have seen him overcome the limits of what we thought were possible time and time again, yet we might only have seen a portion of his true powers.
Lastly, the woman in black that was after Onyx.
She is a constant enigma to us. She attacked me, read my memories, planned to destroy Onyx using Zadime and even caused a lot of trouble for Arc during their fight. She’s extraordinarily powerful.
At the GDF HQ, most people are convinced she was an alien here to invade Earth. But why would she benefit from destroying Onyx, and Earth with it?
Could she possibly have been unaware of the current state of Onyx?
No, there’s no way. There’s no possibility she didn’t know about these risks after reading my mind.
It’s important for us to determine her true identity, but there’s still too little physical evidence. We need a more thorough investigation, including the on-site inspection.
On the way back from the HQ, I visited Yuma at the hospital.
There were no abnormalities on his exams and he should be able to be discharged soon, so he was in a good mood.
When casually asked about it, he told me he didn’t remember anything after being teleported to Mt. Shishio. Besides, he was super excited to hear the details about how YouPi and I joined together to fight. I was honestly a bit embarrassed at how his eyes were sparkling as he listened because at the end of the day, we let the target escape.
After that, we did what we usually do and started to think about names for Arc’s new armor and weapons.
The armor with a space-like bright color was named “Galaxy Armor.” The feathers that danced through the air, with the ability to teleport were called “Arc Feathers.” The weapon formed when the feathers merge was given the name “Arc Galaxer”. We continued naming things including the beam it releases, etc.
I gathered all the names in a list and sent it for a special analysis from Arc FAM, as usual. I’m sure they’ll accept our suggestions like always.
Then, I returned home. I revealed the details about the Onyx incident to Yuma and apologized for keeping it a secret for so long. He simply nodded, as if he knew it all along.
The burden I carried is gone.
Or it should be, but I can still feel the small thorns pricking at my heart.
For now, I’ll appreciate the fact that I can live in this world and do what I do, while enjoying a hot cup of coffee. I'll savor each sip.
