Shu Ishido’s Diary – Entry 18

Shu Ishido’s Diary – Entry 18

This week’s entry in Shu’s Diary places our beloved GDF inspector in the same place we were at the end of Episode 18 — Nervous about what’s happening next, and worried for Yuma and Arc.

I’m currently writing this while sitting alone in the tent set up by the GDF.
I can hear the incessant explosions and earth tremors from here.
Thanks to the cooperation between the GDF, SKIP’s Hoshimoto City Branch and Ultraman Arc, the dimensional rift has disappeared.
However, the situation is not resolved yet. The fight is still going on.
While I’m concerned of how SKIP is doing leading the evacuation, my duties here prevent me from leaving my post.

The reason I’m in this tent is because we were ordered to follow the shifts and rest.
And yes, I should be sleeping right now.
However, beyond the immediate threat we’re facing,, there’s an even greater concern that is weighing heavy in my heart. And that is the safety of Yuma and Arc, who disappeared simultaneously.

Since everything that happened concerning that incident is no longer my jurisdiction, there’s nothing I can do.
Telling myself I should at least try to relax, I took a sip of the coffee provided in the tent, but it didn’t help.
Realizing the magnitude of the situation, I decided to write it down.
This is the time I’d usually be writing this entry at home as well. I felt like continuing my normal habits was my way to protect my presence of mind.
Even if it’s nothing more than a temporary escape from reality.

I’ll write down everything that has happened since yesterday.
Ever since the dimensional rift appeared ten days ago, Hoshimoto City has been bombarded with ghost kaiju eggs.
Our exhaustion became more and more apparent with the battles between the incessant ghost kaiju.
Judging by the way they attacked, it seemed that the sender of the eggs—referred to as "Hellnarak, the Infernal Dark Shogun" by Zangill—was deliberately waging a war of attrition.

As we were rushing into action, I got a suggestion from the Space Science Division to use Onyxium particles.
These special particles had been sought by the GDF from before and were finally discovered at Kitsunegamori Forest when conducting research on the Onyx.
As they work the same way as a wormhole, apparently by firing it from the GDF’s energy collecting device it can be used to seal the dimensional rift.

The plan was immediately put into action.
But to make it work, we needed Arc, who (we believe) controls the Onyxium particles when using the Galaxy Armor.
The biggest issue was figuring out how to make him understand our intentions.
Or so I thought. But as it turns out, it was not an issue.
While each SKIP member frantically tried to communicate with him, Arc smoothly distributed the Onyxium particles. Another ghost kaiju (later named Bazanga by the GDF) appeared and Arc made full use of his teleportation abilities to fight it.
Once the energy collecting device started to shoot its beam, the dimensional rift started to quickly close.

My heart raced with excitement to know that our operation succeeded.
But that feeling was short-lived. Arc disappeared beyond the rift with Hellnarak, who showed up right after. And Yuma had also gone missing.

He went to the bathroom during the operation and never came back.
Thinking about it, he has been disappearing from the scene a lot recently. Though he acts normal, he might be going through some serious health issues.
With the grueling work day after day  he might have rushed to a hospital coming to a point where he could not bear any longer due to his health, or maybe a good samaritan took him there. Both are plausible.

But why can’t we get in contact with him at all?
Did he get himself into an even more dangerous situation?
Getting heavily injured during Arc and Bazanga’s fight…
Being trapped under the rubble from a fallen building, unable to move…
Or, in the worst case scenario, he might have…

No. I started to write this in order to keep my presence of mind, so I can’t keep imagining these awful scenarios. Besides, I can’t even fathom what must have happened to Arc.

…They called me. I must return to work immediately.
I have no time to rest right now.
