Shu Ishido’s Diary – Special Entry 3

Shu Ishido’s Diary – Special Entry 3

The latest episode of Ultraman Arc featured a bittersweet parting between Shu Ishido and his dear friend, Yuma Hize. This week’s diary entry shines a light on what has made their friendship deeper. Here’s hoping Yuma comes back safe…

Date: xx/xx

Today, Yuma and I visited the old movie theater on the outskirts of Hoshimoto City: The Hoshimoto Orion.
It’s the place I was teleported to by Ultraman Arc, when Zadime, the galactic beast, attacked.
At the time, I met a woman in black, most likely an alien, who had her eyes on the Onyx.
I still get chills thinking about it. It was a truly terrifying experience.

But the reason we went there today is unrelated to that incident.
We are here looking for traces of Supekkio, the space life form, which attacked Okami Town the other day, while disguising itself as Gomess, the ancient monster.

Supekkio was flying towards Okami Town’s glass factory, but after being defeated by Ultraman Arc, it crystallized into a mountain.
After that, both the GDF and SKIP investigated the surrounding areas and confirmed its safety.
However, recently, it has been theorized that the shards from Supekkio’s explosion have been carried farther away by the wind, which has mobilized the research institutes.

Supekkio’s habits are still widely unknown.
Though the shards are small, there is a possibility of them causing further disasters.
So, along with everyone at SKIP, I immediately restarted the investigations.
That being said, haphazardly running around looking for minuscule shards will take way too long.
Therefore, Rin and YouPi have used today’s weather forecast to run a simulation and listed the places the shards were most likely to be found. We have split up and are currently looking at the possible spots according to the likelihood of success.

And so, Yuma and I are now at The Orion.
This movie theater has been here since the late 50’s. Thankfully, the manager was here to open it, even though it’s no longer in operation.
He comes from time to time to open the windows and doors to let the air flow.
Which means, it wouldn’t be strange to find Supekkio particles inside the building as well.
And within the darkness, it’s possible for the shards to have multiplied.
After explaining the situation to the manager, he agreed to wait outside while we went in and used the measuring device.
We then split up and searched every nook and cranny.

In the end, there were no vestiges of Supekkio.
Only when Yuma and I met again at the lobby and took a deep breath, I noticed my hand which clasped the device was sweating.
I wonder why. We faced much more dangerous situations so far, so why was I so insecure?

“Isn’t it because you remember what happened here?”, Yuma suggested.
What happened here…
It’s true I had a terrifying experience in this theater. A mysterious power took control over my body and peeked into my thoughts and emotions. It’s something I don’t want to think about ever again.
It’s very likely this place might have evoked those memories, leaving me excessively anxious.

Seeing me reflect upon this and get suddenly quiet, Yuma pointed at a poster on the wall and asked “Have you seen this movie?” in a cheerful tone.
It was an old animated movie I’d never seen before.
Yuma then told me he came to this movie theater to watch it with his parents as a child and excitedly started to explain the plot. I was slightly taken aback, but I realized this was his attempt to make me relax.

A movie theater painted with memories from his deceased parents…
It might be even more difficult for him to come here and relive these memories.
And yet, he put my feelings first.
I was unable to express my gratitude towards his kindness with words, so I made sure to show him I was paying attention to what he was saying instead.

When I think about it, I actually don’t watch a lot of movies.
The last one I saw was the Detective Bon Hebon movie, about 3 years ago. But as a fan of the original novels, I felt it was not as good.
But I heard the reboot will be much better.
If it comes to a theater in Hoshimoto City, I think I’ll invite Yuma to come with me when we have the time.
I want to leave him with some good memories.
