Stunning, right? Well, we got in touch with the guy who made it, John “Robo7” Bellotti Jr., the man behind Kaiju Brooklyn and an accomplished artist on his own. Let’s see what he had to say about his work, the card, and what’s coming next!

UC: You’ve been creating art with the Ultraman brand for a few years now, but how did you get involved with the Ultraman Card Game?
JB: As you know, I make licensed Ultraman shirts utilizing my artwork. Over time, I’ve gotten to know the wonderful people behind the scenes here in the states. They see what I can do and what I’m capable of and I tend to have a very screen accurate realistic style, which I think services the card game pretty well. I was invited by them to work on the Rosso card.

UC: What were your influences when making this version of Ultraman Rosso for the card game?
JB: I always want to make sure that the artwork represents the character accurately. For this particular card  I actually didn’t color it due to time constraints so I hired a wonderful illustrator named Nick Shev to color the piece. I definitely wanted the crackling fire energy to be a part of this card and when discussing the coloring of it, we made sure to accurately represent that. We didn’t really look at any other outside influences other than the source material for this particular card.

Are there any other characters you’d love to work on in the Ultraman Series?
JB: Absolutely! Ultraman Agul, Ultraman Max, Ultraman Nexus, Ultraman Hikari, Ultraseven, Ultraman Gaia V2, Ultraman Geed, those are my top ones but honestly, it’s an honor to work on any one of them!

It looks like John’s time with Ultraman isn’t anywhere near done yet, and if you want to pick up the card emblazoned with his art, make sure to grab the second booster set of the Ultraman Card Game, BP02 Vortex of Crimson and Azure when it comes out January 24th, 2025!
