Something that has come up several times already in Ultraman Omega is simply how unprepared this Earth is for the awakening of the Kaiju, and very few characters represent their attempts to come to grips with that new reality like Ayumu Ichido, biologist and friend to Sorato Okida and Kosei Hoshimi.
When we first meet Ayumu, or “Ayu” as Sorato calls her (much to her chagrin), she is studying the corpse of Graim, the first Kaiju to appear on Earth. From moment one, it is clear that… She’s not quite out of her depth, but her understanding is running up against a wall as tall as Ultraman!
More frustratingly, the first living Kaiju she sees, Dugrid, is identified by Sorato, the spacy man who stole her lunch, and then insulted it! However, Ayumu is the best of us — someone more interested in solving a problem than getting credit. Despite the lack of substance to Sorato’s history, he seems to be correct, and Ayumu is willing to listen if it can get humanity to step forward in their new struggles.
Ayumu is looking to be one of the best new characters in Ultraman Omega, and is a valuable member of the trio… even if she’s out of the loop on Sorato being the enormous giant that’s been beating the raging Kaiju. When will she find out? You’ll have to keep watching Ultraman Omega to find out!
