On Friday, July 26th, fresh off the buzz from the Marvel's Ultraman Series panel, Ultraman Connection and Tsuburaya Productions brought that energy to room 6DE, where the premiere of Ultraman Blazar the Movie: Tokyo Kaiju Showdown was waiting, along with a cadre of dedicated and excited fans!
Jeff Gomez, Producer for Ultraman Connection greeted the happy crowd with an introduction promising a special surprise in the end, and thanking Tsuburaya Productions and Tsuburaya Fields Media & Pictures Entertainment for supplying the footage.
In addition, he reminded the audience of a new development announced at the earlier panel — Ultraman Blazar, both the series and the movie, are coming to Blu-ray from Mill Creek Entertainment! More details will come later this week, but we can tell you that the whole show and this very movie are coming out on October 29th!
The screening was of the dub, the first time it’s been shown anywhere in the world. Johnny Yong Bosch led the cast we love for one more adventure as they delved into the secrets of the mysterious Necromass Corporation, and their connection to a series of Kaiju attacks. We’ve made it clear how much we love all the incredible dub voice actors, we’d love to shout out two that debuted in this movie — That being, the voices of Ichiro Mabuse and his son Yuki: Chris Wehkamp and his real-life son, Allen.
The Wehkamps bring a deep, genuine connection between father and son that can only come from, well… father and son! In fact, the two did such a good job that, when Ultraman Arc started airing, and Chris was cast as the voice of Yuma’s father, Allen was brought on too to play young Yuma!
However, let’s go back to the screening! When the movie ended (to brilliant applause), the “special surprise” came to pass, as Ultraman Blazar himself, having not appeared at any of the previous events during San Diego Comic Con, appeared! Running through the crowd, Blazar, in his own special way, gave growling greetings to each one of the fans in attendance!
After that, the show finally came to an end, and Ultraman Blazar returned to the stars, bringing the night to a close. However, this was only one of so much to happen over the course of the convention! And if you couldn’t make it, don’t worry — Ultraman Connection will be covering all the crazy happenings all weekend long!
