The Biology of Nezutron and Livyjira

The Biology of Nezutron and Livyjira

We at UC have been studying the mysterious Kaiju that Ultraman Arc has been battling in his series of the same name with significant interest. Shagong, Leodo, and Monogelos and Digelos were fascinating research subjects, and today’s double-feature carries on that tradition admirably. Let’s start on the mousier end before we end up taking on a real whale of a threat, shall we?

Nezutron

Shu_s-Diary-04_Nezutron

You would need more than a Master Ball to catch this electric rodent. Scientific name Electricamus nipponicus, the creature that would become Nezutron is a new variation of the common rat that, thanks to a mutant bacteria in its system that allows it to convert electricity into sustenance — which, if you know anything about, well, life, is a scientific find on a scale we can scarcely comprehend. The ability to directly take in electrical energy opens up entire new books in the fields of biology, and we’re very curious about how the GDF and SKIP study its remains.

The mutation in the rat’s body, which was already the size of a man due to its habitat of a local Hoshimoto power plant, was amplified tremendously by exposure to electricity generated by Daimode, a rare mineral being experimented on as a new power source. Massive amounts of electricity, rather than overloading or frying the poor rat, caused its bacteria-laden cells to multiply rapidly, causing it to grow to an impossible size, making it a proper Kaiju.

At this massive size, Nezutron developed a bony cranium reminiscent of the Pachycephalosaurus, and actually absorbed the Daimode, continuing to absorb more and more electricity. In order to stop this creature, Arc first had to sever its “power supply” in the form of a cable connecting it to the facility and risking its destruction, and finally knock it into the sky with his new Solis Armor, finally destroying it with an Arc Finalize. Talk about pest control!

Livyjira

Livyjira

If Nezutron was a modern monster, Livyjira was the absolute opposite, a Kaiju from the distant past. Having been native to the Daiko Mountain Range millions of years ago, fossils of the creature had been found in the area shortly after it attacked in the modern era.

Resembling a ghastly mix of various fish and aquatic mammals, Livyjira was, despite its habitat, an aquatic Kaiju. It just had the beneficial ability to create its own habitat. Somehow producing impossible amounts of saltwater from within its body, Livyjira, in a single night, created a lake in the middle of a mountain basin, threatening to flood the area around it if it had continued.

This ability of Livyjira’s and its almost totally underwater habitat begs the question, however — where was the creature before it unleashed a flood of biblical proportions? How does something like this stay out of sight before this moment? The answer appears to be, well, in the groundwater! Underground, Livyjira had been in a sort of “hyper-hibernation” that allowed it to live for literal millennia — yes, we are of the mind that the Livyjira we met was directly related to the fossilized one. Considering the amount of salt in its body to product so much seawater, perhaps it was able to pickle its cells to preserve itself? It’s something worth thinking about.

Arc_Livyjira

Arc’s battle with Livyjira took place primarily at the bottom of this new lake, with Arc using a Trick Technique to combine the Arc Giga Barrier and Arc Exa Slash into a propeller that cleared up the muddy waters, letting Arc actually battle the undersea creature in its own territory. After plugging up its water-spewing blowhole, Arc finished it off with an Arc Finalize, and the water began to drain away slowly.

That’s all we have time to look at today, but next week, we’ll be sure to expand our Kaiju biology studies to creatures of all different stripes. See you then!
