As you enter the iconic Javits Center, a huge Tamashii Nations banner towers the entrance with the event exclusive, S.H. Figurarts Ultraman figure!
Tamashii Nations, known for their highly acclaimed detailed action figures with advanced articulation had a superior display with an assortment from the S.H. Figuarts line featuring Ultra Arts.
The limited NYCC 2022 Event Exclusive, S.H. Figuarts Ultraman figure, The Rise of Ultraman is based on the Marvel Comics series officially licensed from Tsuburaya Productions. The figure took center stage along with Ultraman suits on proud display. This event exclusive figure replicates Marvel’s version of Ultraman nicely as you can see a subtle blue tint in the silver paint and slightly more muscular shoulders. Inside the main display case, we can see three figures posing just as Ultraman appeared in the comics.
Stepping inside the Tamashii Nations booth, we can see the Ultra Arts from the S.H. Figuarts with several heroes from the Showa, Heisei, and the New Generation eras.
Starting with the Ultra Brothers, we can see on the top row are Ultraman Ace, Ultraseven, and Ultraman Taro all showing off their beam attack accessories. In the bottom row, Ultraman Jack, a very special version of Ultraman Type C in the S.H. Figuarts Shinkochhou Seihou series (which we’ll talk more about in a sec), and the commander of the Inter Galactic Defense Force, Zoffy.
In the second display we get a mix of the Heisei and New Generation Heroes. Up front we see Ultraman Z original, Ultraman Zero, the brand-new Ultraman Decker Flash Type, and Ultraman Trigger Multi Type.
Ultraman Decker is not yet available and will drop in January 2023. This figure was recently shown during the Ultraman Connection Live Special YouTube Event with Tamashii Nations. It is truly remarkable how the artists captured Decker’s Galaxy colors around his color timer. The figure is a great representation of Ultraman Decker and we can’t wait to add him to our personal collections.
Starting from top left is Ultraman Ribut with his Spreader Rod and shield, the Ribut Blocker. We get two version special figures of Ultraman Tiga Multi Type and Power Type in the S.H. Figuarts Shinkochhou Seihou series.
So, what is this S.H. Figuarts Shinkochhou Seihou series? The English translation that US collectors refer to is the “true bone carving method.” This special line of S.H. Figuarts incorporates a 3D scan of the original suit actors. For Ultraman, for example, suit actor Bin Furuya was scanned and so was suit actor, Shunsuke Gondo for Ultraman Tiga Multi Type, and suit actor Koji Nakamura for Power Type. Using the 3D scan gives the figure even more realistic proportions with screen accurate minute details allowing for some outstanding poseability!
Ultraman does his signature pose complete with his Spacium Beam accessory.
Ultraman Tiga Power Type includes a really cool Delacium Light Stream accessory to recreate his signature move!
Next we come to the Anime ULTRAMAN series. First we can see a just revealed mini poster of the third and final season of the anime which will start steaming Spring 2023 on Netflix. The figures on display here are Bemular Suit, Ultraman Suit, Ultraman Suit Ver 7, and the brand new Ultraman Suit Taro.
The new Ultraman Suit Taro from the Netflix Anime is available for purchase in limited quantities here at NYCC. The complex details from the armor have been nicely replicated in figure form as one would expect from Tamashii Nations. During the Meet & Greet sessions with Taro, the first fifteen people on line got their figure signed by the manga creators, Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi.
Returning to the front of the Tamashii booth, not only was the event exclusive figure on display but a full Ultraman Suit! Fans would line up and pose with the hero from Nebula M78 to get their selfies in or photos taken.
Ultraman continues to be loved by people of all ages and New York Comic Con is just one of many events to come. If you’re in the big Apple this weekend, be sure to stop by and say hi to Ultraman at NYCC!
